In blocks of peat, you can see the layers of vegetal history. But they were used as layered material for cultural history as well, building blocks of our Dutch wealth and prosperity.
In the work, I’m exploring these layers. I used the peat blocks to build a wall with a gilded peat block on the top. And I made an effort to come closer to the layers within the block by tearing the block apart with my bare hands in a video.
